After hearing fellow travellers rave about Iguazu Falls we decided that this was a must do this trip to South America.
From Buenos Aries it’s a long bus ride or a short easy flight into the tiny airport. Here we lucked out and met Leonardo who became our driver into Puerto Iguazu. Taxi and Remise drivers all charge a flat fee of 700 Pesos which is rather pricey, but hey it’s a tourist town. [continue reading…]

No not Monarchs as in rulers and royalty. I’m talking about the eastern population of North American Monarch butterflies who overwinter in a dozen or so mountain areas in the States of Mexico and Michoacan from October/November to late March.
Millions of them gather in oyamel fir forests in the mountain hillsides. The elevation, temperature and humidity provide an ideal microclimate for the butterflies, as it assures that they won’t dry out and allows them to conserve their body fat for energy.

I had always thought of this sprawling city as somewhere I would never ever even want to visit After all it’s a city of 8.9 million in the city itself, with a grand total of 21.7 million if you include the greater metropolitan area. Then there is its reputation of it being an epicenter of crime and pollution.
Despite all this we decided to spend 10 days in the city and surrounding area on our way to Argentina. Multiple stories from fellow travelers who had recently visited and ‘loved it’ had made us question as to whether it really was different from its reputation. Soon after we were smack bang in the heart of the Historic Center and were very pleasantly surprised.

Flying on commercial airlines sucks.
As an air passenger you are often subjected to a whole range of bullshit and humiliations and the kicker is you paid for the privilege.
I don’t mind paying for a service, however I do object to having to pay to be harassed.
